Description

The design of the 5070 drew direct inspiration from the unique rattrapante wristwatch reference 2512 displayed in the Patek Philippe museum. Its notable feature was its larger case size of 42mm, which set it apart from both its predecessors and successors in the Patek Philippe chronograph lineup. Prior references were sized at 36mm, while even the contemporary perpetual calendar chronograph measured 40mm. Despite its larger dimensions, the 5070 maintained excellent ergonomic design, with a compact lug-to-lug span and a stepped case that made it wear smaller than its diameter suggested.Powered by the renowned Lemania caliber 2310, which was also used in iconic references like the 5970 and 5004, the 5070 initially featured a symmetrical layout of subdials at 3 and 6 o’clock. However, in later iterations, Patek Philippe introduced their in-house caliber and modified the subdial layout to differentiate the successor models. The unique oversized nature and historical significance of the 5070 make it highly desirable among collectors. The present watch being offered features an opaline dial, which beautifully complements the white gold case and creates a striking contrast with the blackened gold hands and applied Arabic hour markers unique to this particular configuration of the 5070.
